Welp since I’ve been working on this tutorial with a copy of his Animator’s Survival Kit within reach; I feel it would be probably be decent of me to note yesterday’s passing of Richard Williams.
I never met the man – but his influence is felt even where I’m at. He wrote the book that everyone uses as the bible for animation principles. I myself have a copy I’ve been looking back to for reference for over a decade now. (A lot of the concepts I’m slaughtering to this day are in there.) Also ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, which he was animation director of, will remain one of my favorite films for probably years to come. Seriously it’s a great movie on all levels – especially animation – if haven’t seen it go treat yourself and watch it.
More of his work, including snippets of his unfinished (not going to go into that, no sense dragging a man just after his death) project The Thief and the Cobbler can be found on Youtube at TheThiefArchive.
